Control of primary sludge by measuring of sludge blanket level
With on-line measurement and control of the sludge blanket level in the primary clarifier with sludge blanket meter CBX it is possible to ensure god functionality of the following biological stage. By removal of the right amount of primary sludge, too high sludge load is prevented. By controlling the primary sludge outtake, less water will be fed to digester resulting in lower need of warming which means saving of energy.
Strategy for By-pass – Better Economy in the Active Sludge Stage
Automatic on-line measurement of sludge level in the secondary clarifiers will give an early warning of overload and help to form a strategy for by-pass at high hydraulic load. Sludge wash out could be prevented and consequently less phosphorus will reach the recipient as a high portion of the phosphorus is particle bounded.
As the Cerlic CBX sludge level meter defines the sludge blanket by means of concentration, it is possible to control the RAS-pumping capacity as a function of the blanket depth rather than influent flow. This will result in optimal RAS flow at all occasions. The CBX is also able to measue and indicate the fluff level. This information is essential in order to prevent sludge wash out, as per above.
Optimization of gravity thickener
On-line measuement of the blanket level in the thickener will help to keep the blanket at highest possible depth without the risk of having sludge wash out in the reject. This resulting in a higher concentration of the sludge fed to the digester. Result; Less water to warm, longer retention time in the digester will give energy savings and higher bio gas production.
